Tesco teamed up with teachers and a school chef to give children a taste of the exotic.

Youngsters from Snodland primary school in Kent spent last week sampling fruit from across the globe and learning where and how each variety is grown, thanks to the UK multiple and its supplier Wealmoor.

Tesco fruit experts liaised with the school's caterers to compile a healthy eating menu for the establishment's 400 pupils, and provided the produce for 60 five and six-year-olds to study.

Adrian Smith, Tesco exotic fruit specialist, said: 'We want to raise children's awareness of the world around them by allowing them to sample the different tastes and textures of fruit from around the globe.

'Once their tastebuds are tantalised by the sweet flavours, they will recognise that fruit snacks are a healthy but tasty option.' Teacher Julie King said the fruit lessons helped her pupils realise that there is a wide range of fruits available.

'They now recognise that there are more fruits than just apples and bananas.'
