Citricos Valencianos has seen acreage increase sevenfold and the number of operators working the label double since it was launched in 1999.

Last season closed with 1,800 tonnes of citrus marketed as Citricos Valencianos and grown on some 4.583 ha compared to 645ha at the outset of the project. The number of packers involved has also increased dramatically from five two years ago to 10 with several big names in the industry coming on board – a coup this past season is the addition of Torres Hermanos y Sucesores.

In order to qualify to use the label, producers have to meet certain criteria regarding product quality and traceability. The organisation behind the label also organises promotional activity, which has seen Citricos Valencianos present at some of Europe's leading trade fairs including Sial, Anuga, AGF Totaal and Fruit Logistica.
