Greek kiwifruit production amounted to 45,000 tonnes in 2001, significantly lower than originally forecast and 39 per cent down of the previous season. This was largely due to severe hailstorms and strong winds, which adversely affected fruit set. Of the total around 25,000t was exported, compared with 33,254t and 27,255t for the previous two years (Source: FAS).
