Continuing cold weather in Israel and Egypt has affected strawberry supply over the last two weeks but as temperatures rise, berry size has also been improving, reports importer AFI Direct Sales. Moroccan Camarosa has made up for the shortfall with very high quality product and increasing quantities. 'Substantial volumes are expected in February and we are also very encouraged by the results of exciting trials of additional varieties,' AFI said in a statement. Spain is also coming on stream with strawberries from the Huelva region, about two weeks behind a normal schedule. Meanwhile, raspberry volumes from the same area are building up as Glen Lyon fruit grown under cover becomes available. Supplies of Tulameen will come on stream in March.
