Marks & Spencer has introduced baby kiwifruit from Chile to its shelves for a limited four to six week period.

The fruit is similar to kiwifruit and is referred to as Arguta in Chile. It will be marketed in 175g punnets, ripe and ready to eat featuring the catchy strapline 'no fur, no fuss, you can eat the whole fruit including the skin'.

The diminutive fruit is similar in shape and colour to a green olive and the vines it grows on are resistant to cooler temperatures. As a result it is available much earlier than the larger standard green Hayward which will not appear on UK shelves until later in the spring.

It is targeted at the convenience end of the market and will be marketed only in select M&S stores.
