The Asparagus Association is hoping to tap into the celebratory mood of the public on Jubilee weekend.

The UK product comes on stream at the same time as the double bank holiday to commemorate a 50-year reign for the Queen, and the association is posting details of suppliers on its website for those who cannot find the crop at their local supermarket.

'British asparagus has always been regarded as a special treat,' said a spokesman. 'This is because our good old British weather only allows such a short season in this country.' The website is www.british-asparagus.co.uk
