Tunbridge Wells based Ecobras is expecting its first CA container of Cayenee Lisse pineapples from Ghana later this month. The company's John Cameron is working with shipper P&O Nedlloyd.

'We have been importing pineapple from Ghana since last year, but this is our first trial with CA containers,' explained John Cameron of Ecobras who handles the produce supplied by exporter Horizon Fruits in Ghana. 'P&O Nedlloyd have been training staff locally in using the new containers and will be on hand when he container is opened on arrival.' Cameron is hoping that the trial proves successful with pineapples so that shipments can be combined with papaya when it is in season to reduce reliance on costly air-freight routes.

The first container is expected to arrive in Felixstowe after a 17-day voyage in mid-April and fruit will be distributed by C&C Importers.
