In its second season, the Kenyan Avocado Committee reports that growing conditions for the fruit have been 'excellent'. The six-member body was established last year to regulate and develop exports of avocados. Already shippers have improved packaging and the industry is working more closely together to enhance logistics and improve freight transport.

This season's target is some 16,000-18,000tonnes equivalent to 4million-4.5m 4kg cartons. Fuerte is the dominant variety accounting for 95 per cent of sendings, the remainder are Hass. The season runs from March to September.

Committee members are all aiming to improve market perceptions of Kenyan avocados and develop marketing as well as ensure compliance with Eurep Gap requirements and ensure volumes exported are in line with market demands.
