John Loughlin, ceo of meat processing and marketing concern Richmond Ltd will join the Zespri board in May to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of deputy chairman Brian Armstrong.

Zespri chairman Doug Voss said that in making the appointment, the board had been keen to maintain a balance of independent and industry skills. Richmond was identified as an appropriately qualified and experienced candidate following a professional recruitment search.

He joins the eight-member board ahead of the kiwifruit group's agm on July 17 when, in accordance with the company's electoral process for directors he will retire and stand for re-election for one of the three vacancies to be voted on at the meeting.
