The CFA's new documentation sets out practical measures and systems on pesticide use and management, to be followed by growers and and other raw material suppliers.

CFA's information is relevant to suppliers of all materials of plant origin, such as fresh, frozen and dehydrated produce.

Issued as EU authorisation on chemical use is under review, the document comes at the right time – the use of hundreds of substances is at risk, with many expected to be banned by July 2003.

Nevertheless, the developing world will continue to use many of these chemical inputs, so due diligence is vital in the ports and airports of the EU.
