The Soil Association's standards have been redesigned and the language improved for clarity. They are also being offered in ready-to-file chapters. Guidance notes have been added to aid interpretation and new standards and sections have also been incorporated.

The standards also aim to protect endangered species of herbs and plants collected from the wild that may be sold as organic and to safeguard the environment on organic holdings. Under the revised standards, growers must draw up an environmental map of their farm identifying key features such as ponds and ancient hedges.
