The continuing investment by the Dutch owned producer based at Thakeham, West Sussex, reached its latest stage last month with the completion of a £250,000 temperature regulated, high/low preparation area, which is already operational.

The facility is based on Heveco's own farm which produces 80 tonnes weekly to provide a guaranteed fresh supply of product.

This development is central to the long-term strategy which brings an added dimension to Heveco's product portfolio. The washing, slicing and dicing operation can handle more than a tonne of mushrooms an hour. The unit has been designed to high-care food standards but also with flexibility in mind, to allow multiple orders to specific customer requirements to be completed quickly and cost effectively.

Mark Howarth, Heveco's local managing director, said: 'Our facility has already received approval from blue-chip companies who have been impressed with our approach.' Heveco Ltd's chairman Ton Derks addedd 'The UK market is one that requires its suppliers to be both multi-faceted and competitive. We believe that this new facility adds to Heveco's strength in the UK and is a welcome addition to its ongoing investment programme.'
