'The event acknowledges that we're not the biggest retailer of organics in the UK, but that we are trying to establish a position - and we are going to do that our way,' said M&S's Stuart Stubbins.

'We will make sure we are selling authentic organic products that give the best eating quality - adding value for our customers. There are terrific opportunities to add value across the range of organic produce and the UK supermarkets don't always get it right.' One man who often makes that exact point is Radio 4's John Humphrys, who was a guest speaker at the event. Delegates were also given cookery demonstrations and tours around the organic gardens of the resort.
