Six young UK florists will be battling it out this week to win the SkillFlorist competition, taking place as part of SkillCity in Manchester.

The competitors represent six of the floristry industry's leading organisations: Association of British Floristry Teachers, British Florist Association, Flowergram, Interflora, Society of Floristry and British Teleflower Service.

'Lantra is delighted to have been involved in the organisation of the SkillFlorist competition,' said Lantra's industry partnership manager for floristry, Sally Beel. 'The competition provides a great opportunity for the UK's best young florists to show off their skills, and hopefully encourage other young people into a career in floristry.' Throughout the week competitors will design flower displays ranging from table arrangements to hanging designs, all around a 'carnival' theme. As part of the live stage presentation on Friday, competitors will be given a surprise package of flowers and will have 45 minutes to create a display live on stage.

SkillCity is an exhibition aiming to inspire the career choices of people aged 14-25 and is organised by The Prince's Trust and UK Skills.
