The market is held from Wednesday to Saturday beneath a series of distinctive aches where local and national growers and producers of other farm products, gather to sell their wares in the heart of the town's new shopping and leisure complex.

The market has been organised by Jan McCourt of Northfield Farm who has worked with the centre's developer Grosvenor.

'The Market @ Festival Square is a direct response to feedback we received from local people who wanted to have access to a wider selection of quality fresh produce in the town centre,' he said.

The fruit and vegetable market in the square sells organic and conventionally grown produce and unlike a farmers' market, allows shoppers to buy on four days a week instead of just weekly or monthly.

'Now not only can the local population buy food fresh from the field,' said McCourt, 'Sthey can also talk to the person who has produced it, cares about it and can explain exactly where it came from.'
