Demand in the US for non-traditional exports from Honduras has increased by nine per cent in the last five years. Salads and vegetables – including traditionally Chinese lines such as okra – pineapples, mango, melon and citrus are all on the rise, according to the University of Louisiana study although banana sendings have declined.

Fresh fruit sendings, excluding bananas, particularly are growing to be worth $35million and now account for six per cent of non-processed agricultural exports.

New marketse also opening up in the EU for Honduras citrus, mainly grapefruit, are also helping spur growth.
