Recruitment specialist More People is holding a seminar to advise on the benefits businesses could reap from the appointment of a non-executive director.

Non-execs are not just meant to be policemen for the shareholders of large companies - in the small to medium sized business they can make a valuable contribution by bringing a wealth of experience on a wide range of business issues.

In order to help companies find out more about the practical, legal and commercial issues involved in this area MorePeople is holding a seminar to discuss the benefits that could be derived from such an appointment.

The event is being held in association with the HSBC and Roythornes solicitors. It is designed to be of interest not only to companies interested in appointing a non-exec but also to any individuals thinking of offering their services as a non-exec director in the near future.

Speakers will cover all aspects of the role. This will entail the view from both sides of the fence, and an outline of the main legal points relevant to corporate responsibility in this area.

Opening the evening will be Martin Lawrence - a widely experienced food sector executive who was previously managing director of Perkins Foods PLC and chairman of the Peterborough Enterprise Programme. He is currently a non-exec director of Lingarden Ltd and an advisor to the board of Branston Potatoes.

The second speaker is entrepreneur Colin Clark. He is managing director of DGM Growers Ltd. Clark executed an MBO of DGM in the late 1990s and has recently sold the business to M&W Mack Ltd. He will talk about the value gained from, and input of, a non-executive director from the company's point of view.

Phil Cookson is the final speaker. Cookson is a partner with Roythornes solicitors and will provide an update on the current legislation relating non-execs, their role and their responsibilities.

The seminar will be held at Whaplode Manor Hotel near Spalding on April 3 from 4-6pm. Admission is free but by invitation only. If you would like further information please call Claudia, Guy or Peter on 01780 480530 or e-mail neds@morepeople.co.uk Please note that this seminar replaces the original event scheduled for 14th November last year.
