Leading UK asparagus producer Tuddenham Hall Estates is looking forward to a promising season based on initial quality of its Jersey Giant crop.

Richard Clement, director, is delighted with the start to the season the 175 acres of Jersey Giant has made. He said: 'We are seeing a clear difference between Jersey Giant and any other varieties.' Tuddenham has been growing Jersey Giant for a number of years and is planning to stop production on Dutch varieties to concentrate on the Jersey line.

Clement added: 'We have asked for more and more Jersey Giant but we cannot produce enough yet. The uniform spear appearance and flavour are a big plus.' Peter Seabrook, gardening editor of tabloid daily The Sun, has been singing the praises of the giant asparagus. One in his garden has grown to 8.5 inches from base to tip and has a girth of 3.5 inches. And the newspaper now begun a quest to find the biggest asparagus in the UK.
