The research programme involved the distribution of free fruit and vegetables to children aged four to 11 in two schools in Dundalk. Their fresh produce consumption patterns were subsequently analysed.

The results for the study were presented to the Irish authorities and showed a significant statistical increase in both fruit and vegetable intake by 52 per cent and 88 per cent respectively.

The lines used in the programme were: carrots, cucumber, celery, cherry tomatoes, apples, bananas, satsumas and pears.
