The PPECB (PPECB) has announced that it has just been authorised by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) to certify organisations in South Africa that package fresh produce according to its BRC Global Standard - Food.

Organisations complying with the standard receive the BRC's internationally recognised certificate displaying its quality mark for food safety.

The BRC Global Standard – Food is recognised by retailers not just in the UK but elsewhere in Europe as the standard against which packhouses must be audited to verify that food safety control systems have been effectively implemented. This is comparable to the Eurep-Gap system for producers.

The PPECB has a distinguished history in controlling the quality of South Africa's fresh produce exports and earning this BRC authorisation for certification enhances its standing as an independent certification body of fresh produce and adds value for its customers.

The advantage for South African producers and exporters of fresh fruit and vegetables being certified to the BRC Global Standard - Food is that their produce can automatically gain entry to EU markets.
