National Summer Fruits' fourth British strawberry day will take place on June 12. And activities are planned up and down the country.

Sainsbury's is partly sponsoring the strawberry basket delivery to national TV, radio and newspapers along with local radio stations. The BBC Radio 2 Steve Wright Show will give listeners the opportunity to win a special treat of strawberries and cream delivered direct during the show.

Several supermarkets will be joining in with events.

Marks & Spencer will include the new strawberry recipe leaflet with its promotions. Meanwhile, members of the Women's food and farming union (WFFU) will also be organising events nationwide, which will be taking place throughout the month of June.

WFFU members are planning charity dinners. Also, activities and competitions for primary and secondary school children include; a strawberry tennis tournament, strawberry tasting on board the King Henry Ferry on the river Foel and fruit presentations to the Royal Marines back from Iraq. More details can be found at www.britishsummerfruits.co.uk.

Elsewhere, David Lloyd Leisure is holding a British strawberry promotion during Wimbledon fortnight, where members in 54 clubs will be offered strawberries and cream, and other fruit desserts. So June 12 is only the start of the celebrations for strawberries in a jam-packed month.
