The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has issued the second in its new series of food essays, with the aim of provoking informed debate over issues across the whole food chain.

The essay is written by Stuart Mitchell, Sainsbury's managing director, and explores the role retailers are playing in sustainable development and making a positive impact in the developing world.

Richard Ali, BRC's director of food policy, said: “We are delighted that Stuart Mitchell was able to provide us with his expert view and analysis on the subject.”
