Sainsbury's market share has slipped again to 16.1 per cent

Sainsbury's continuing underperformance has been underlined, as latest market share figures reveal that the troubled group is falling further behind its competitors.

The supermarket chain has seen its figures fall by 1.3 percentage points. For the 12-week period to October 12 the group's market share fell to 16.1 per cent.

The store was the worst performer among the leading retailers with fellow underperformers Safeway and Somerfield doing better.

The figures from Taylor Nelson Sofres show that the big winners were Tesco, Asda and Morrisons. Tesco saw its market share jump 1.1 percentage points to 27 per cent. Asda was up 0.8 per cent to 16.8 per cent. Morrisons increased their market share from 5.9 per cent to 6.3 per cent.
