Vegetable growers should be able to control volunteer cereals and grass weeds with a new formulation of Syngenta's Fusilade Max.

The improved formulation can be used on parsnips, turnips, swedes, spring greens and various beans. According to Syngenta there is better spray coverage of grass weed leaves, faster uptake into weeds and a quicker kill.

Syngenta vegetable campaign manager Bruce McKenzie says the new Fusilade Max has demonstrated improved control. He said: “This formulation will give greater flexibility for application timing to control a range of weed sizes. Growers should aim to remove competition as early as possible, but the flexibility will prove extremely valuable if there's a prolonged weed germination season.”

McKenzie also points out that the new formulation contains only half the level of active ingredient per litre compared to Fusilade 250EW.

Growers must be in possession of a copy of the Fusilade Max SOLA before use. A copy can be obtained from the pesticides safety directorate www.pesticides.gov.uk.
