David Sands Supermarkets is embracing the Heritage brand north of the border

All 16 of the Scottish convenience retailer's stores have started stocking the Heritage range of fresh produce this month, including Heritage Select, the new premium range from Nisa-Today's. David Sands, managing director of the chain of supermarkets, said: "The Heritage range has come a long way and I believe, as a member of Nisa-Today's, we should support the complete own-label portfolio. The multiples have made chilled and fresh produce the battlefield and Heritage has a range that suits all sorts of businesses, enabling us to compete effectively on both range and quality."

The emphasis in all David Sands stores is towards fresh foods and concentrating on improving its offer. The store hopes stocking the Heritage brand will help it address availability and pricing issues.

Andrew Hirst, cateogory controller for fresh produce, said: "Sales of fresh produce are going extremely well at present. The Nisa Heritage range has been re-vamped with new packaging, in conjunction with the re-branding of Nisa-Today's, and we are continually developing not only the packaging, but also the presentation. We have also recently expanded into new product areas for fresh produce, like the horticultural range. Having progressive retailers, such as David Sands, move over to Heritage fresh produce is of great benefit, as we need the support of all our members to enable greater buying power and effectively pass on increased savings to our members."
