Gurkhas and Beacon Foods continue partnership

An unlikely relationship between the famous Gurkha soldiers and Beacon Foods has blossomed further.

Seventeen Gurkha wives have been busy contributing to the success of the Brecon-based food company, while their husbands perform their duties for the British Army, for more than five years.

To improve the links, Major Peter Hill, has appointed Lieutenant Dhanbahadur as liaison officer. Hill said: “It's important we have a direct line into Beacon Foods. The appointment of a liaison officer is critical to develop a good working relationship with the company which provides ideal employment for our ladies.”

Lieutenant Dhan, as he is known at Beacon Foods said the liaison role was important because some of the women were unable to speak English very well. He said: “It's important that the families are made aware of what is happening in the company and as the liaison officer I am able to help resolve any issues that arise.”
