Cherries and berries switch sources

Chilean cherry supplies are coming to the end of their season, according to importer Redbridge AFI, and availability is now switching to air-freighted fruit from both Australia and Argentina. "Inevitably this will coincide with price rises as volumes will be smaller," said a spokesperson.

Meanwhile, mixed weather in Egypt and Israel has been affecting strawberry availability although quality is assured as fruit is under cover. Morocco is starting to come into the picture, but Redbridge AFI reports the season is running two weeks late and peak volumes will not be on stream until mid-February.
