Two Israeli entomologists have patented a revoultionary, flexible insect-repellent pack. The product is manufactured in Israel by Biopack, a company established exclusively to produce and market the novel packaging.

Shmuel Shatzky, founder and ceo of Biopack, said that the new packaging contains unique material which repels insects. The material, integrated into the flexible packaging, is based on food additives that are classified Generally Recognised As Safe (Gras) by the US Food & Drug Administration. It is derived from edible plants and contains no harmful chemicals or substances.

"Biopack’s unique material prolongs storage time and shelf life and reduces wastage," Mr Shatzky noted. In addition to its suitability for fresh produce, the new Biopack insect-repellent packaging material is effective for storing cereals, grains, pasta, beans, nuts, dried fruit, spices and herbs, coffee, chocolate and cocoa products.
