McDonald's introduces healthier menu

McDonald’s is to make sweeping changes to its menu across 16 European countries, with salads and chopped fruit replacing some of its burgers.

The new menu, which will be launched in the UK on March 29, is seen as central to lifting returns at McDonald’s and will cost more than £10 million to launch.

Dennis Hennequin, executive vice-president of McDonald’s Europe, said: “This is big news, even in countries where we’ve already been playing around with salad side dishes.”

To make room for the eight healthier products, which include a grilled-chicken caprese sandwich made with mozzarella, rocket and cherry tomatoes, McDonald’s will cease selling a McBacon burger and a cheeseburger.

Andrew Taylor, McDonald’s UK boss, said the new menu was created after listening to customers. He said: “We want McDonald’s to move away from asking customers would you like fries with that? To saying would you like an apple with that?”
