We were delighted to announce last week the appointment of Nigel Jenney as our new chief executive. Nigel brings a real depth of experience to the FPC, not least as former managing director of East Riding Farm Produce and United Vegetables.

Nigel will start in his new position on May 4 and he will quickly get to grips with many of the issues faced by the FPC membership during a hectic first three days. His first activities will involve a review meeting of the National School Fruit Scheme, a meeting with Defra officials, an FPC Importers’ Division meeting and the Re:fresh conference.

I will be available in the office during May and will continue on a consultancy basis until the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the industry have shown a huge interest in the Re:fresh conference and awards dinner, which takes place on May 6 at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square.

The conference speakers include some of the industry’s key decision makers and shapers of future strategy within the supermarket and food service sectors and they are sure to provide food for thought for everyone involved in the supply of fresh fruit and vegetables.

The Awards dinner following the conference promises to be a great affair, with the opportunity to recognise innovation and good practice across a wide range of disciplines within the industry.

Booking forms are available from the FPC or see the advertisements in the FPJ and the Grower for details.
