Fruit ingredients specialist JO Sims has appointed a new berry supplier, Munich-based Dinter Trading GmbH.

The German supplier of frozen fruits sources its produce from Eastern Europe and will now supply JO Sims exclusively in the UK with a variety of berry products such as blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and cherries.

The UK-based fresh produce importers already supply a variety of products; fresh, frozen and dried fruit, fruit juice concentrates, fruit powders, fruit distillates, and fruit purees and will now offer its customers a full range of frozen fruits from the one provider.

General manager of the ingredients division Lee Doleman said: "With the recovery of the fruit preparations sector in the last few years, there is now a huge interest in using frozen fruits for high fruit definition in premium products such as jams and preserves. Our agreement with Dinter will allow us the breadth of range to meet this demand, and ensure ongoing development of new fruit ingredients for this sector."

Dinter specialise in European fruit ingredients and has a number of freezing plants across Eastern Europe including Poland, the Czech Republic, Serbia and Turkey and JO Sims management chose the German supplier because of its extensive knowledge of the fruit growing regions in Eastern Europe. Dinter controls 95 per cent of output from the plants located in the region, facilitating the vertical integration of production and freezing processes and thus maintaining their high standards.

In addition, Dinter's supply-chain and well-established links in Central America will provide a new source of fruits such as kiwi, melon and apples to the UK ingredients specialist.

The new range of frozen berries will be supplied to its UK customers, which include supermarkets, fresh produce markets and food manufacturers, in one kilo and 2.5kg bags.
