Beacon Foods gets spicy

Bombay potato is one of the best sellers at the innovative Brecon-based company, which supplies the country's leading food manufacturers and food service companies. The company supplies potatoes with a full range of coatings to suit a customer's requirements, be it tandoori, sag, cajun or southern style.

Potatoes are supplied in wedges, diced, julienne, sliced and even mashed with butter for those British traditionalists. Cooking styles include roasted, sauteed, char-grilled and boiled and the potato products are used in a multitude of food items, from potato salads, bagged salads and root vegetable mixes to ready meal dishes, pizza toppings, soups and pie fillings.

"We can make our potato products a lot more exciting with different coatings, but we also have customers who want traditional boiled and roasted potatoes," said Edward Gough, Beacon Foods' managing director. "There are literally hundreds of different specifications for potato products and every one of our customers is looking for something bespoke.

Beacon Foods also reports a growing demand for roasted, char-grilled and boiled sweet potato, which is popular for sandwiches, quiches, pizza toppings, to accompany meat products, pie fillings and soups.
