Waitrose supports compassionate shopping

The UK grocer was awarded the prize of the Compassionate Supermarket of the Year 2003 -2004 last November, by the farm animal welfare charity, Compassion in World Farming Trust.

To show its commitment to the farm animal welfare cause, the supermarket group will fund and distribute the free copies of the CIWF Trust guide to its customers. The Compassionate Shoppers' Guide includes hints and labelling advice for customers who consider the welfare of farm animal in relation to the goods they buy.

CIWF Trust's ceo Joyce D'Silva said: “CIWF Trust is delighted that Waitrose has agreed to distribute copies of the Compassionate Shoppers' Guide to its customers. We are confident that Waitrose customers will find the guide an interesting and useful reference tool".

Copies of the guide will be available in stores from June 1 across the 144 stores.
