The Inverness-based grower specialises in root vegetables such as carrots and parsnips realised that on-pack coding information is crucial in order to comply with legislation and guarantee the quality of their produce.

Sales and procurement manager Krsitine Dinnes said: "An automatic package coding management system is essential to ensure product accuracy and traceability. Calricom was recommended to us by our coding equipment suppliers and it is also on the Tesco approved supplier list."

The PCMS removes the daily manual data input as data is entered and controlled using CLARiSOFT message software and linked to packaging lines through the CLARiNET network database. CLARiFY is used to provide batch planning of coding information such as variety and origin and can be used to set up information for traceability such as packaging lane used.

Project manager for Claricom Ed Wareham said: "As an independent supplier we can provide a solution that work with thermal overprinter, continuos ink-jet printers and thermal label printers in one simple network. Claricom is an expert in this field and has already demonstrated a high level of expertise and understanding as tot he specific requirements for the coding control of fresh produce."
