New Zealanders expecting a good season

New Zealand kiwi producers are expecting a good season this year, said Andreas Borgers, Zespri’s European product manager.

“We expect to sell 40 million boxes of kiwi fruits in Europe,” he said, with the first boxes of both green and gold fruit arriving at the end of May.

“Zespri Gold has been on the market now for three years and is selling well,” said Borger. “Sales have risen rapidly, and by 2003 we had reached half a million boxes. Last year the figure had increased to 3.5 million units.”
