Dutch traders and growers are launching a new trading company on June 1.

Terra Natura International (TNI) will have three groups of shareholders: producers in the Action Pearl Growers group, managing director Frans van der Burg and sales director Karl Wronski.

The new company will be dedicated to importing and exporting fresh salad produce for retailers, foodservice providers, specialist caterers and wholesalers across Europe and the UK.

“The unique combination of a growers association and a trading company creates an ultra-short chain with optimum cost efficiency,” said van der Burg.

Frans van der Burg worked for Minnaar from 1980 to 2001, and was md from 1991 to 2001. Following the acquisition of Minnaar by The Greenery, van der Burg spent time as md of Greenery Nederland and Greenery UK.

Karl Wronski was marketing director of Minnaar UK from 1985-2001. He was subsequently responsible for logistics at The Greenery in the UK.

Action Pearl Growers is a group of pioneering growers producing nine different types of tomato in the Netherlands on 140 hectares. Some 50ha of glass are devoted to year-round cultivation under artificial lighting. The members of Action Pearl Growers use their own grading and packhouses, which are EurepGAP, HACCP and BRC certified.

The full TNI product range will encompass a broad spectrum of lettuce, cucumbers, capsicum and a comprehensive tomato offer.

“We see this as an exciting model for the future,” said van der Burg. “It will be a highly effective partnership of experienced and innovative growers and traders.”

The company will operate from the present sales office of Action Pearl Growers in De Lier.
