Cut flower importer World Flowers has become the first to have its operations outside Europe certified to the British Ornamental Plant Producers standard for cut-flower packhouses. The standard is regarded by retailers as equivalent to the BRC standard for the ornamentals sector. World Flowers’ five subcontract packhouses in Kenya have gained the certification.

“Our technical team works to exacting standards and once again their dedication and hard work has paid off,” said the company’s technical director Ian Finlayson. “The Bopp certification means that customers can be confident that World Flowers only deals with approved suppliers, that products are safe, legal and of consistent quality. Customers can be assured that there is a fully auditable supply chain to allow detailed product traceability.”

World Flowers merged with Hampshire based SGP in October last year to become one of the largest flower grower-importers in Europe with a combined turnover of £100 million.
