The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has published a Van Drivers Handbook detailing essential rules and requirements for UK van drivers.

Sponsored by Ford, the 60-page guide informs also features information on towing, overloading and dangerous goods as well as issues on food and animals.

While providing a useful day-to-day resource, the FTA’s head of leasing automotive and PSV, Lawrie Alford, says the handbook could help with some long-running issues such as self-regulation: “White Van Man does have a bad reputation, and while the last thing we want is for O-licensing [operator licensing] to be extended to this category of vehicle, it is being thought about. But if the industry adopts good practice, it can perhaps prevent or at least delay it. The handbook can help with that,” he said.
