A new Brontosaur egg Pluot is set to hit the European market in July, introduced by Seville-based producer Royal.
This Pluot - a hybrid of a plum and an apricot - has a colourful, mottled skin, with orange and pink flesh, and strong apricot flavour.
The fruit looks like a plum with its tense skin and rounded shape. But the fine skin and multicoloured flesh marks it out as a different fruit.
The variety will be in season from the end of July until mid-August.
This Pluot will be popular with children as it looks like a dinosaur egg, according to Royal. The fruit is not genetically modified and has the characteristics of the plum and apricot as a result of natural cross-fertilzation.
The Brontosaur egg Pluot is grown exclusively by Spanish-based Royal in Europe. The stonefruit company has produced over five premium varieties of Pluots.
