Amazonian berries top the bill

International fruit ingredient supplier JO Sims will be putting the positive health benefits of antioxidants in the spotlight at this year’s Health Ingredients Europe (HiE) exhibition, taking place in Frankfurt from November 14-16.

Along with more familiar berries, the company will be showcasing the Amazonian berry, açai, which contains one of the highest concentrations of antioxidants of commercially available fruit.

Dubbed by some as the latest superfruit, açai is a purple berry native to the Amazon rainforest, renowned for its energy-boosting effects and high nutritional content, says JO Sims.

It is also rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals and is thought to improve skin health.

JO Sims supplies açai berries, as well as cranberries, wild blueberries and other fresh and dried fruit to a number of high-profile food and drink manufacturers.

Wild blueberries have reportedly been linked with the prevention of age-related diseases, including heart disease and premature ageing, and are thought to help lower cholesterol.

A team of technical sales representatives will be on hand at the JO Sims stand at HiE to discuss the company’s portfolio of healthy ingredients and advise visitors on suitable combinations for their products.
