Spanish growers have succeeded in obtaining a review of EurepGAP certification rates, which were due to rise on September 1. Growers complained through Spanish producer-exporter body Fepex that the increases were unjustified, given the prevailing “negative market” situation they operate in. Fepex - which runs the Eurep secretariat in Spain - has reported that the EurepGAP board will now reconsider the rates at its conference in Prague next week.

Proposed changes to the 2007 protocol will also be considered at the conference. EurepGAP expects that the process of revision will take place before the end of the year so that the new 2007 protocol can come into force at the beginning of March 2007.
