According to figures released by the regulatory council, some 45,000 tonnes are forecast, and external and internal eating quality are both very high.
However, the council warns that sizes are on the small side this year as a result of extremely dry conditions, particularly during the summer.
Supplies were shorter in the previous two seasons due to inclement weather during the spring. Last season only 35,000t were marketed under the denomination of origin.
This increase has led the regional government to work closely with the regional council to promote the fruit on external markets as well as within Spain.
