Scotland’s only garlic grower, The Really Garlicky Company, has repaid French growers for their support last year, by springing to the rescue in a time of French shortages.
Following a problem harvest last year The Really Garlicky Company relied on the support of the French who were able to supply the firm with Rose Du Tarn, which was considered very similar by Really Garlicky customers to its premium product.
This year, the roles have been reversed. French violet garlic has been in short supply, but the Scottish harvest has been problem free. The Really Garlicky Company harvested 34 acres in July and is in a position to return the complement. “In support of the Auld Alliance, we are concerned to hear there is a supply problem in France” Glen Allingham, director of the Really Garlicky Company said. “If we can help in any way, we shall certainly try to”, he continued.
Known also for its juicy plump cloves and sweet flavour, Really Garlicky garlic is similar to the violet garlic grown in Cadours, France.
