Christian Salvesen, the leading European logistics specialist, has appointed a new managing director of food and consumer division in Europe.

Coen van der Maarel will join the organisation from February 2007.

Van der Maarel will be responsible for managing the food and consumer business unit on mainland Europe, based in Brussels, as well as for business development in potential new markets in eastern Europe.

He will also become part of the group executive committee.

Van de Maarel joins Christian Salvesen from Exel, where he has been working since 2004, most recently as the managing director of the supply chain in Eastern Europe, based in The Netherlands.

His responsibilities included operations and development in Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Turkey and Israel.

This is the latest in a number of senior appointments made by Christian Salvesen over the last 12 months as part of its ‘rejuvenate for success’ strategy.

Stewart Oades, chief executive officer at Christian Salvesen, said: “Coen is a great example of the calibre of person that we are attracting to Christian Salvesen. He brings to our business strong development capabilities and extensive experience of western and eastern European markets. His skills fit well with our strategic ambition to grow our

consumer sector activities in these markets.”

Peter Willems, managing director of support services and member of

the executive committee, will remain in his role of acting managing director of the food and consumer division until the appointment of Van der Maarel.
