US fresh fruit marketer and producer Sun World has established an operation in Santiago, after years of importing fruit from Chile and introducing its new varieties to the country's growers.

Sun World Chile is managed by Chilean fruit industry veteran Rafael Parada, who coordinates all of Sun World's fruit exports to North America as well as its variety development and licensing programmes.

The new South American presence underscores the Californian firm's commitment to actively manage and market its new seedless grape and stonefruit licensing activity in Chile and support its new relationship with exporters, according to senior vice presidents David Marguelas and Dirk Winkelmann.

"Chile produces exceptional fruit and exports much of its production to the US, making Sun World a logical North American distributor for many Chilean produce firms," said Winkelmann.

The Santiago office marks Sun World's fifth overseas venture. The others are based in South Africa, Mexico, Australiasia and Europe.
