Interest in a palletiser designed to take the strain out of potato handling has rocketed this year, according to supplier David Harrisons, which is to continue targeting the category.

The firm is promoting the Oldenhuis & Prinsen palletiser as a way to increase throughput and save on labour costs.

A total of 38 machines have been supplied to the UK.

Gary Palmer at David Harrisons told FPJ: “The machine has been on the market for three years, but it has really taken off this year, particularly in the potato sector.

“It has become increasingly difficult to get labour for short periods and using the palletiser takes away the needs for stackers.”

Oldenhuis & Prinsen machines are designed with easy-to-use controls that allow the operator to adjust the machine to suit individual applications, without the need of a service engineer, according to the firm.

The OPPM 500 machine can handle an average 8.5-9.5 tonnes an hour.
