Brewing giant Scottish & Newcastle, may be about to launch two new pear ciders within the year.

The group is investigating importing a pear cider from Finland, plus creating a pear-flavoured version of Bulmers Original, according to trade bible The Publican.

Pear and other flavoured ciders are proving increasingly popular as consumers look for a wider choice of alcoholic drinks.

S&N did not provide details of its plans or timetable, but did confirm it was testing new products. A spokesman was reported as saying: "We have a couple of pear ciders on test and that is part of a much broader new product development programme.

"But there is no commitment at this time to the development or launch of these products."
