Fyffes has played down reports in the Irish press that its trans-Atlantic shipping service to Dublin launched in June has run into problems already.

“EWL Rotterdam had some minor problems that slowed it down two weeks ago, but that had no impact on its schedule and did not disrupt any fruit getting to market,” said a spokesman for the Irish multi-national.

“Fyffes is very excited about the new service, which builds on a long-standing relationship with EWL. It takes time for any new service to become established, but the big attraction of this is that it is going into Dublin, which is the major population centre of the whole island of Ireland. That is the uniqueness of it for Fyffes, and the fact it offers the opportunity for Irish exporters to ship goods on the return journey.”
