Online service earns produce plaudits

Coolload Europe is earning plaudits for its on-line refrigerated exchange service for fresh-produce hauliers.

The company’s European freight exchange system for refrigerated transport brings together refrigerated hauliers with 'load providers' who have freight loads to transport throughout the UK and Europe.

Coolload offers members a variety of benefits. Members can: keep trucks loaded and increase profitability; gain free instant access to hundreds of hauliers operating thousands of refrigerated trucks; get over 500 'load alerts' about temperature-controlled freight every month; receive load alerts by email to a computer or blackberry device; gain pan-European access as hauliers collect and deliver across the continent; and search for freight loads as often they like at no extra charge.

Boston-based Geoff Gilbert International Transport operates 29 vehicles and 40 trailers throughout the UK, Europe and Scandinavia for the fresh produce and other industries and is a member of Coolload. Paul Coles, md of Geoff Gilbert said: “We chose Coolload as we needed to better utilise our vehicles in terms of re-load opportunities and gain additional export/import loads from areas where we were not particularly strong.

“We quickly saw the benefits as we could reduce empty mileage and waiting time for loads. Now we have a choice of loads available to us, and we can decide in which areas we would like to be.”

Coolload provides a service which facilitates communications between refrigerated hauliers and load providers through a simple automated on-line system, thereby reducing empty running costs and improving efficiency for all parties. “We have saved time and money through advertising and viewing loads and re-loads on-line, as opposed to ringing around,” said Coles. “Coolload has benefited our company by increasing utilisation and profitability.”
