TIMCON calls for rethink

TIMCON, the timber packaging and pallet federation, has called for the industry to rethink its pallet strategy. Considered to be one of the most overlooked components in the supply chain, timber pallets provide a bespoke, cost effective and environmentally beneficial method of storing, transporting and moving goods.

“There is a real opportunity here,” said John Dye, TIMCON president. “With our technical advisory capability at TIMCON, combined with the software available on the market today, innovative timber pallet design has become easier than ever before. Many manufacturers could benefit from rethinking their entire pallet strategy and taking a much closer look at the possibilities offered - not only with tailored-for-purpose timber pallets, but through the use of timber packaging in general.”

According to TIMCON, timber packaging is ideal for the food industry as many species of timber have a natural antibacterial effect, which provides poor living conditions for bacteria compared with plastic laminates and steel. This natural antibacterial factor, combined with modern milling technology, means that high-quality, kiln-dried wooden pallets are ideal for almost any application in food industries.
